Reflect, Reset, & Realign for the year ahead

written by Erica Quam

This is the time of the year when days are darker and shorter. The holidays can ramp up a whole new level of stress in our lives. Give yourself the the gift of taking some time and space to reflect, reset, and realign for the year ahead. If you are working with your team right now, it can be great to give them this time and space as well.

REFLECTION

Before you think back on your year, give yourself some time to get grounded and centered. You may even find it helpful to light a simple candle - something to signify this intention of allowing yourself time to reflect. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Feel your feet on the ground. Be in your body. Notice the rhythm of your breath, the beating of your heart, and any sensations you are feeling inside.

Then, think back on your year and consider what went well (what you're proud of and grateful for), what didn't go well (and what were the lessons you learned), and what you'd like to do differently in the year ahead.

RESET

Do something special for yourself that you can designate as your 'RESET button'. Schedule a massage, go to a yoga class, plan a day with a friend, or simply go to your favorite coffee shop with a good book. Turn off your cell phone. Disable the alerts.

You don't always have to go on a big vacation to recharge your battery. You just need to be intentional about it. Create an experience or space that will allow you to get grounded.

REALIGN

As the year comes to a close, there's a natural break in our normal routine. Coming back from the holidays can sometimes be a struggle. Before your break ends can be a good time to realign with your vision, dream, and hopes. Are there areas of your life where there's an incongruence between what you say you want and what you do? How have you been distracted or steered off course? All it takes to begin to realign is to take one step in the direction you want to go.

Share one thing about how you can reflect, reset, and realign in the comments below. Sometimes we all need that extra push to put it out there into the universe...for a higher level of accountability, momentum, & support!
