3 Things To Do To Get Clear, Save Time, and Get To Sleep At Night

When I first accepted the head coaching job at Washington State University, my former boss congratulated me and then said, "Congratulations coach! That's so awesome. You're not gonna be able to sleep for a month."

He was right.

As soon as I said yes to this job, my brain turned on with a never-ending checklist on a continuous scroll. All the things I needed and wanted to do would pop into my head - day and night. I had so many thoughts. I couldn't shut them off.

The best thing I did during this transition was hire a coach. We began working together immediately and our coaching relationship continued - almost weekly - for 9 years. I can't imagine how hard things would have been without her consistent support. She taught me strategies I still use and now teach to the coaches I work with today.

Whether you're transitioning from an assistant coach to a head coach or you're looking for ways to be better where you are...here are three things to start doing each week. I can literally guarantee you will become more clear, more confident, and more effective as a coach:

Celebrate YOU!

written by Erica Quam

So, almost 40 years ago I was born.  That's right.  This is a big one for me.  I'm not one to like a lot of pomp and circumstance or big celebrations for myself.  Ever!  I'd much rather play things low key, have a nice quiet dinner with Kerry, and a toast with a nice bottle of wine.

This year is no different.  Except...it is a milestone.  40 years old.  Wow.  I had a good friend turn 45 this week.  I wished her happy birthday and she replied with her intention for her 45th year.  It is, "45 and SO alive"!

Well, I'm a sucker for setting a good intention.  Whether it's for the day, the week, the month or the year.  I'm all about it.  So, that got me thinking.  What's my intention going to be for this year?

I've decided that this will be a year of celebration.  I'd like to get in the habit of acknowledging the things that are going well in my life.  I'd like to celebrate each day with an attitude of gratitude.  I'm even going to stretch myself and celebrate my mistakes and my failures.  Does that sound crazy?  Well, what I know is that my mistakes and failures help steer me in the right direction.  I learn so much more from challenges than I do when everything is going well.

So, join me in this year of celebration.  It doesn't matter how old or young you are.  Everyone can use a boost of confidence and more momentum in their lives.  How do you build confidence and momentum?  Celebrate today!
